Letters to our Troops

We are running a care package campaign for deployed service members from all branches of the military for the holidays. We are asking for our students to write a letter to put in each package that we send out.

We ship 600 packages to troops of all branches all over the world. We ask that these letters be turned in by November 1st.

 Tips for the  letters

· Express their thanks for our Military Members’ selfless service

 · Share about themselves, eg. Family, Pets, and favorite Sports or Hobbies, Movies

· Include students’ FIRST NAMES ONLY - Please include the School Name/Teacher, Contact Info(mailing address or email) on every letter so recipients can write back

 · Are your students too young to write letters? Consider drawing or painting pictures instead and include your own note with their age on it.

Thank you for your consideration and time.

Mark your calendar for the Area Choral Festival performance:

·         Thursday, October 19th:  AREA 5 Choral Festival

·         AM Festival rehearsal at Thunderbird HS

·        The cost of the field trip is $6.00 which includes two slices of pizza, a soft drink, and $2 in                  tokens at Peter Piper Pizza. Payment is due with the permission slip by Friday, October 6th.

Evening Concert at Thunderbird HS

The Area 5 Festival is a long running tradition in the WESD school district.  It gives our sixth graders an opportunity to meet and work with the Mountain Sky director, Kirsten Dukeshier, as well as get a glimpse of what awaits them in high school with Mr. Dana Graybeal and Vocal Ensemble! Students also have been looking forward to our lunch off campus!  Lunch at Peter Piper is a well-deserved reward and gives students a chance to mingle with students from the other elementary feeder schools.

Lookout Mountain students should wear class/Lookout Mountain shirts during the day/rehearsal, and nice concert dress for the evening performance at 7 @ Thunderbird High School (black, white, and wear an accent color of Gold or Yellow) on Thursday, October 19th.

CANDLES NEEDED:  Each student is encouraged to bring a small electric candle to use as a prop.  You can find these at dollar stores.  They should be small enough to fit in a pocket. If you have extras, please bring and we can distribute to those who don’t have one!

ALSO NEEDED: If you are interested in chaperoning our October 19th field trip, please e-mail me at:

Thank you for your continued support of music in our schools!

Dear Parents/Guardians-On Monday, August 21

posted Aug 21, 2017, 7:27 AM by Karissa Lee

Dear Parents/Guardians,

On Monday, August 21, a solar eclipse will cross the United States with partial visibility in Arizona with its peak at 10:33 a.m.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) states that at no time during the eclipse should a person look directly at the sun. Exposure of the retina to intense visible light causes damage to the eye’s light-sensitive rod and cone cells. The result is a loss of visual function that may be either temporary or permanent, depending on the severity of the damage. The risk to vision is significant because the associated injuries occur without any feeling of pain, and the visual effects do not occur for at least several hours after the damage is done.

For the safety of all students, all WESD schools will be on a mandatory rainy day schedule Monday, August 21. Recess and other outdoor activities will be canceled from 9:15 a.m. to noon to ensure the safety of our students.

We understand that this is an exciting and educational experience. If students and staff

plan on viewing the eclipse, we are recommending that teachers use the NASA livestream,

Thank you for your understanding and support.

    Lookout Mountain School

2016-17 Fundraiser!

We’re raising funds for the Lookout Mountain PTO that help purchase class t-shirts, classroom enhancements, field day activities, teacher appreciation events, school equipment, etc. So far during the 2016/17 school year, the PTO has purchased over 200 Chromebooks, new curtains for the stage in the cafeteria, music equipment, new umbrellas for the outside lunch tables, and a new refrigerator and dishwasher for the teacher’s lounge.

The Boosterthon Fun Run program is a healthy alternative to traditional product sales that raises much-needed funds for our school. The Boosterthon program also promotes three specific values during the fun-filled experience:  Fitness, Leadership, and Character.

Every student participates in the Fun Run, regardless of pledges raised. Register your student on, using our school’s registration code 666-929 or by searching for our school name.

Think about friends and family who could pledge your student for the Lookout Mountain Fun Run.  And don’t forget to save the Fun Run Date.

—Wednesday, April 12—on your calendar

The run times are as follows:

K-2 - 8:45-9:45 a.m. | 3rd & 5th - 9:50-10:50 a.m. |

4th & 6th - 11 a.m.-12 p.m.

You’re invited to come out and cheer on our students!

Thanks in advance for supporting

Lookout Mountain School.

Boosterthon Fun Run

posted Apr 6, 2017, 1:08 PM by Karissa Lee

Our school has raised 61% of our goal of $30,000 and we hope to keep the momentum building over the next couple of days and to finish strong together! There are only a few days left of the Boosterthon Fun Run program and we need your help to reach your school’s goal!

Tips for reminding your students about helping their school:

1.  During the last 2 to 3 minutes of the day, remind students about the nightly challenge!

2.  Fill in your Pledge-O-Meter and celebrate your class total each day!

3.  Remind students how easy it is to get a pledge and give them ideas of who they can call (aunt, uncle, grandparents, parents, even local businesses).

4.  HAVE FUN! If you’re having fun, you’re students will too!

Tonight’s Challenge is the Top Class Challenge!  The class with the most new pledges from K - 3 and 4 - 6 tonight will earn a Popsicle party from the PTO. And as an added bonus, if your class wins, you’ll earn a Starbucks gift card for your teacher from the Boosterthon team!
